Solar roofs and the export problem

Detached houses in the Kempen often have eight to sixteen panels on a south or west facing roof. On a sunny day that produces far more than the house uses between nine and five, and since the digital meter that surplus goes to the grid for a few cents per kilowatt hour while the evening consumption is bought back at full price. A battery of five to ten kilowatt hours shifts that surplus to the evening, when the cooking, the dishwasher and the car charger run. For a family that is out during the day the difference is substantial. For a household that already consumes most of its production in daytime it is smaller, and we say so.

The garage or the utility room is the usual location. We mount the battery and inverter near the fuse box, keep the cable runs short and tidy and set up the monitoring app so you can see what the battery does.

Installation and aftercare

An installation in the Kempen usually takes one day. We adapt the fuse box where needed, connect the battery, set up the control and leave the installation ready for the inspector. Because we are local, a follow-up visit to fine-tune the settings after the first few months is a short trip, and the 2-year warranty on our work comes on top of the manufacturer warranty on the battery.
